Ooty - Ooty
(7500 feet) is one of the premier hill stations of India. Its known for its
colonial heritage feel, heritage train, tea plantations around it, a
wonderful weather all through the year (especially in summer) and a lot of
boarding schools.
Its also a favorite
ex-bangalore / Ex-Coimbatore / Ex-Cochin weekend getaway and a destination
for corporate conferences and meets during regular / lean season.
Guests
like the colonial heritage feel of ooty and like to stay in one of the
charming heritage options. Mettupalayam - Ooty Nilgiris heritage train is
popular with Inbound guests.
Ooty is touristy in
a way and even though its a well managed town, some guests prefer to stay at
more off-beat locations around Ooty such as Coonoor, Emerald, Kotagiri
(broadly referred to as "Coonoor" region, known for its tea
plantations) etc.

Seasonality
- Long weekends, Holiday Season (Deewali, Christmas, Summer). It gets really
cold in Winters (Jan-March) and temperatures could reach to near zero.

Golf Course
- As you approach from Mudumalai side, this is the first area
around the Golf course about 5 kms from the town centre. This has a cut
off / laidback feel to it.

Strawberry
Hill - This is a hill top at about 2 kms from the town centre and a
good secluded location.

Around City
Centre - Charing Cross is what the city centre called. There are
number of mid-segment, heritage and premium accommodations around here.
This is convenient if idea is to do a bit of sightseeing and exploring
the area.

Fernhill /
Lake - Like all colonial hill stations, Ooty has a lake in the
centre. Around the lake at different ends are different hotels,
surprisingly none having any great lake views.

Lovedale
- This is situated after Ooty town, just off the Coonoor Road. Lovedale
is where a lot of schools are situated.
Access
- 90 kms from
Coimbatore. Coimbatore is the best arrival point
for the area (Good Train / flight connectivity with most major cities
in India).
