Suggested Itineraries for Hills of West Bengal and Sikkim 

 

Itinerary 2 - Ex-New Jaipaiguri / Bagdogra ( Pelling - Gangtok - Lachung - Kalimpong - Dooars) - 11 nights : This itinerary looks to cover interior and less visited and less touristy areas of Sikkim and West Bengal Hills such as Lachung and Dooars. It also looks to mix a bit of adventure (trekking, rafting and wildlife) in the itinerary. Darjeeling can be added with Two additional nights or at the expense of either Pelling or Dooars.  

Day 1 - Arrive in Morning at New Jalpaiguri / Bagdogra and proceed to Pelling (137 kms) - 4 hours.  Gardens 

While in Pelling enjoy Himalaya views and visit Pemayangatse Monastery, Changay Waterfalls, Dentam Valley and Singshore Bridge.

Day 2 - Proceed to Gangtok (132 kms) 

Day 2 and Day 3 : While in Gangtok visit Tsangu Lake (full day Excursion), Rumtek Monastery, Nam Nang View Point, Botanical Garden, Local Craft Centre, Flower Show (Seasonal) and Tibetan Market. Morning visit to Tashi View point, Ganesh Tok, Hanuman Tok and Pangthang can also be considered time permitting.

Day 4 - Proceed to Lachung (124 kms) - 5 hours

Day 4 and Day 5 - While in Lachung visit Yumthang (24 kms - 11800 ft) for its scenic grandeur and hot water springs and Katao Snow Point (42 kms - 13500 ft) from where you can view snow throughout the year. Yumesamdong (13300 ft)is another 1 hour driver where the whole area is covered with Azella plant (Used as incense by locals)

Day 6 : Return to Gangtok (124 kms) - Visit Local Markets.

Day 7 : Proceed to Kalimpong (79 kms).

Day 7, Day 8 and Day 9 : While in Kalimpong visit Flower Nursuries, Durpin Daar hills (View point and birding point), Jang-Dog-Palrifro-Brang-Gompa. It is suggested that  you do river rafting in river Teesta (Throughout the year except Monsoon). A day Trek and overnight stay at Samthar is recommended for an off-beat himalayan experience. 

Day 10 and Day 11- Proceed to Doors (Chalsa) - 87 kms. Visit Gorumara Wildlife Sanctuary (23 kms), is famous for its flora and fauna and 
Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary (70 kms), is one of the last refuge in the world of the one-horned rhino and Samsing (20 kms) - a point along a river with Himalayan views. 

Access (Train)

New Jalpaiguri has trains arriving from all over India. There are overnight trains from Kolkata (Howarah) and Direct long distance train from Mumbai(Dadar) and other metros.
