Pilgrimage Destination in Uttaranchal

In Haridwar

  • Mansa Devi Temple is situated on a hill close to the main city of Haridwar. It is a popular belief that those who pray with complete devotion to Mansa Devi get their wishes granted.

  • Pawan Dham Temple -is known for the elaborately decorated idols and for the glasswork that is done on the temple walls.

  • Parmeshwar Mahadev Temple - has a huge stone lingam that has been made of mercury.

  • The Chandi Devi Temple -was constructed in 1929 A.D. The Saint Adi Shankaracharya set up the statue of the main deity in this temple in the 8th century.

  • Lal Mata Temple - situated atop an artificial hill and has a frozen Shiva lingam and is quite like the temple at Vaishno Devi in Kashmir.

In Rishikesh :

  • Bharat Mandir - reputedly the oldest temple of Rishikesh is dedicated to Lord Shiva

  • Nilkanth Mahadev Temple - is supposedly the pace where Lord Shiva drank the poison churned out of the cosmic ocean.

  • Someshwar Temple - Hindu Scriptures mention the temple standing amidst water; perhaps the Ganga flowed here centuries ago

  • Hanuman Temple - built in 1924 by Oriya Baba.

Hemkund Sahib ( Valley of Flowers) - marks the place where Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th and the last Guru unified with God after prolonged meditation. The shrine is encircled by seven snow clad peaks and their associated glaciers.

In Gangolihat :-

  • Patal Bhubaneshwar : is a huge complex supposedly retrieved by Adi Shankaracharya in around 8th or 10th Century A.D. The enterance to Patal Bhubenehwar is through a narrow cave that leads to a series of small halls. It is traditionally believed to be the abode of three crore deities and is supposedly the replica of Patal Lok (the mythical underworld).
