Pilgrimage Destinations in Rajasthan

In Jaipur

  • Govind Devji Temple - houses a Lord Krishna idol brought from Vrindavan in the 18th century. The idol is believed to have been sculptured by Lord Krishna's grandson.

  • Galta Temple - is dedicated to the Sun God.

  • Birla Mandir - houses idols of Vishnu and Goddess Laxmi (Goddess of wealth and fortune) and the walls adorned with quotes from Gita and Upanishad.

In Udaipur or around:

  • Eklingji Temple - is dedicated to Lord Ekling (Shiva) and was founded by Acharya Viswaroopa contemporary of Adi Sankaracharya. There is another temple called Nathon Ka Mandir in the temple complex with inscriptions dating back to the 10th century CE.

  • Sas Bahu Temple - built in the 10th century; this temple is dedicated to the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law and has intricate carvings including some erotic figures.

  • Adbudji Jain temple - is a ruined temple dating back to the 17th century and houses a black marble statue of Shanti Natha.

In Nathdwara :

  • Shrinathji Temple - built in the 17th century on spot exactly defined by the Lord himself. (The legend says that the bullock cart on which the idol was being transferred got stuck at this spot and refused to move).

In Jaisalmer :

  • Parshavnath Temple - the original temple was destroyed in 1152, but was reconstructed in 1615 by Seth Tharu Shah. The temple houses an image of the prophet Parshvanath in black stone with a multi-hooded serpent canopy.

  • Rishabnath Temple - constructed in 1479 the temple is dedicated to Rishabdevji. The legends say that he lived 20, 00,000 years as a prince and no less than 63, 00,000 years as a king.

In Mount Abu :

  • Dilwara Temples - built between 11th and 13th century is famous for the stunning marble carvings. There are 5 temples in all -

  • Vimal Vasahi (Shri Adi Nathji temple)

  • Luna Vasahi (Shri Nemi Nathji temple) ·

  • Pithalhar (Shri Rishabh Deoji temple)

  • Khartar Vasahi (Shri Parshav Nathji temple)

  • Ajmer Sharief - also known as Dargah Sharif is the tomb of Sufi Saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti and was his last resting place.

In Pushkar :

  • Brahma Temple- constructed in the 14th century, this temple dedicated to Lord Brahma (the creator of the universe according to Hindu mythology).

  • Warah temple- houses an image of lord Vishnu in the incarnation of wild boar. (Mythologically it is believed that Vishnu came on the earth in the incarnation of Warah (wild boar) to kill the demon Hirnayaksh and liberate the land from his atrocities).
