MP/01 - North and Central India Heritage Itinerary

Delhi (1)- Agra (2) - Orchha (1) - Khajuraho (2) - Varanasi (2) - Delhi 

Highlight - This is a central India Itinerary that covers major heritage and spiritual destinations in North and Central India such as Delhi, Agra, Gwalior, Orchha, Khajuraho and Varanasi. This is a very popular circuit with inbound guests.
This can be considered as an extension of the popular Golden Triangle itinerary.

Heritage monuments that could be visited 

  • Delhi - Red Fort, Qutab Minar, Lotus Temple, India Gate, Parliament, Jama Masjid

  • Agra : Agra Fort, Taj Mahal, Faethpur Sikri (60 kms), Itmad-ul-Daulah's Tomb, Sikandara, Jama Masjid (Mosque), Moti Masjid (Mosque)

  • Orchha - Fort, Jain Temple, Jehangir Mahal, Raj Mahal, Chaturbhuj Temple, Laxminarayan Temple

  • Khajuraho - Erotic Temples, Jain Temples

  • Varanasi - Ganges Riverside spiritual experience. 

Other Possible attractions

  • Bird Watchers - Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary (60 kms from Agra), Sur Sarovar (Near Agra), Chambal Ravines (80 kms from Agra. 1or 2 night extension recommended for bird watchers), Orchha Wildlife Sanctuary. 

  • Fishing - Mahaseer Fishing on Ken River

  • Wildlife -Panna National Park

  • Major Hindu Temples - Akshardham Temple in Delhi, Kashi Vishwanath Jyotilinga Temple in Varanasi

  • General - Bear Rescue Facility (37 kms from Agra), Panna Diamond Mines, Waterfalls around Khajuraho. Sightseeing in Varanasi.

Recommended Itinerary (This is an indicative itinerary, Sequence of the activities may vary and depend on prevailing weather condition and guest preferences)

  • Day 1: Arrive at Delhi. Do half day Sightseeing.

  • Day 2: After Breakfast Leave for Agra (200 kms) - 5 hours. Do half day sightseeing in the afternoon.

  • Day 3 : After Breakfast do Excursions (e.g. Bharatpur, Fatehpur Sikri).

  • Day 4 : After Breakfast proceed to Orchha (220 kms). Can either take a train (Shatabdi Exp recommended) to Jhansi or by road visiting Gwalior Fort enroute. Take a walk on the Orchha heritage area around fort in the evening.

  • Day 5: After breakfast leave for Khajuraho (170 kms - 5 hours). Do evening Sightseeing of the Khajuraho Temples and visit evening light show.

  • Day 6: After Breakfast Do a day sightseeing to Panna (26 kms) and surrounding areas.

  • Day 7: Take afternoon flight for Varanasi. Arrive at Varanasi. 

  • Day 8: Do full day sightseeing and Boating in River Ganga (Ganges).

  • Day 9 : Take a train / flight to Delhi or Onward destination.

Extension

  • Heritage city of Jaipur can be visited given two additional nights between Delhi and Agra Stays. 

  • Serious wildlifers or those interested in spotting tigers in wild, could opt for Bandhavgarh (260 kms from Khajuraho). A 2 night extension would give guests a good chance to sight tigers. However 3 nights is recommended for a good experience.
