Lakshadweep Islands - Lakshadweep
Islands are a set of islands (Part of Union Territories of India) in Arabian Sea
accessible either from Kochi (Cochin) or Cochin (by 22 hour Boat ride). Only
Agatti and Bangaram has private resorts (Kadmat islands have Tourism dept
accommodation facility) in Lakshadweep have accommodation facilities for
tourists. All islands require prior permit before visiting even for Indian
nationals.
Lakshadweep Islands are highly eco-sensitive islands
with population spread over 11 islands. Malayalam is spoken in all the islands
except Minicoy where people speak Mahl which is written in Divehi script and is
spoken in Maldives also. The main occupation of the people is fishing, coconut
cultivation and coir twisting.
Lakshadweep Today is considered one of the few
remote islands in the world still not connected via modern communication
systems. It has corals all around it and pristine beaches and a destination for
serious Scuba diving and snorkeling.
Lakshadweep is an expensive destination from the
point of view of flight access and stay costs. However its the remoteness and
complete seclusion has made it into a destination for honeymooners for over a
decade or so.
