KAR/06 – Mangalore (2 nights)--Madikeri (2 nights) - Nagarhole (2 nights) - Mysore (1 night) - This is a popular circuit that covers plantation region of Coorg (Known as Scotland of India for its weather and countryside), Nagarhole (One of the Best park experience in India) and heritage destination of Mysore alongwith Beaches of Mangalore (which also is an excellent access point for the sector).

Suggested Itinerary (This is an indicative itinerary, Sequence of the activities may vary and depend on prevailing weather condition)

Day 1: Arrive at Mangalore and transfer to a Beach Resort. Enjoy and laze around beach and relax for rest of the day. 
Day 2 : Local sightseeing of Temples and St Mays Island 
Day 3: Transfer to Madikeri (150 kms - 4 hours). Relax for rest of the day.
Day 4:
After Breakfast Visit Dubare Elephant Training Camp and Tibetan Monastery and Coffee Plantation 
Day 5 : After Breakfast Transfer to Nagarhole (100-120 kms). Evening Safari Starts at 3:30 PM. 
Day 6:: Nature walk / Safari before breakfast. Evening Safari Starts at 3:30 PM
Day 7 : Transfer to Mysore (80 kms). Visit to the Mysore Palace, Srirangapatna, Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary and Vrindavan Gardens in the evening. 
Day 8: Leave for Bangalore (153 Kms) after breakfast.

Madikeri (State: Karnataka Category: Plantation Retreat/Hill Station)

Madikeri is a Hill station situated in Coorg region known for its coffee and spice plantations. It is located at 170 kms from Mangalore and the road to Madikeri passes through a very picturesque terrain.

There are quite a few options for traveling around Madikeri:

  • Elephant Training Camp at Dubare (20 km) on banks of river cauvery where Elephant ride is possible.

  • Tibetan Village and Monastery: 35 km

  • Omkareshwara Temple : 30 km

  • Talacauvery : 83 km Temple – Origin of river Cauvery

  • Abbey Waterfalls (35 kms)

Nagarhole(State: Karnataka Category: Wildlife)

Rajiv Gandhi National Park (Nagarhole) is among the best national parks in Indian when it comes to sighteeings and overall wildlife Experience.

A wildlife safari is a Nagarhole. Take the jeep safari through the Nagarhole National Park where you are bound to see herds of elephants grazing, wild dogs, bisons, deer, peacocks, wild boars a variety of birds and maybe if you're lucky, those elusive big cats: the tiger and the panther.

A safari on elephant back is another experience altogether. You feel as if you're sailing on a slightly turbulent sea and yet you know you are in a forest. Since the animals are used to having elephants around, you don't disturb them either. A visit to the Elephant training camp is also a good experience.

Mysore (State: Karnataka Category: Heritage) (2 nights):

Mysore is a city of palaces, gardens, shady avenues and sacred temples and retains some of the charm of the old world with its many institutions that propagate Carnatic Classical music and dance.

Places of Interest in Mysore

  • The Mysore Palace - Once the residence of the Wodeyars, this structure is one of the largest of its kind in India . Built in 1912 in the Indo Saracenic style.

  • Jaganmohan Palace : This is a converted art gallery which houses paintings that date back to the late 19th century. 

  • Chamundi Hill : Perched atop a hill is a 12th century temple of Chamundershwari . About 13 Kms from Mysore by road these is also a 1000 step walking track for all those young at heart to try. The gigantic 4.8 meter tall monolith of Nandi the sacred vehicle of Lord Shiva is a marvel to watch. Also close to the temple stands a gigantic statues of the demon Mahishasura.

  • St. Philomena's Church : This beautiful Cathedral was built in 1956 and is one of the largest churches in the country. It has been built in the Gothic style with beautiful stain glass windows and lofty towers.

  • The Mysore Zoo : One of the county's best zoo, this is famous for rare animals bred in captivity and is housed in lush green surroundings.

  • Brindavan Gardens : 19 Kms north west of Mysore is the famous KRS dam.

Surrounding Places of Interest

  • Srirangapatna : 14 Kms north east on the Bangalore Mysore highway, this island fortress was once the capital of the warrior king Hyder Ali and his son Tipu Sultan. There are beautiful monuments that are well worth a visit.

  • Nanjangud : 23 Kms of Mysore . This is an important pilgrim center and is famous for its Nanjundeshwara Temple (from which the place derives its name).

  • Sangama : This is 3 Kms from Srirangapatna where the two branches of the river Cauvery reunite in joyful exuberance.

  • Ranganathittu : 4 Kms from Srirangapatna and 18 Kms from Mysore is a bird sanctuary that houses exotic birds. Birds from as far away as Siberia and even North America make their home here. Crocodiles basking in the sun is also a familiar sight.

  • Somanathapur : 35 Kms east is this famous village which has the 13th century Hoysala Temple . The temple is in excellent condition has frescoed exteriors with episodes from the epics.

  • Melkote : 50 Kms north of Mysore is this sacred pilgrim center know for its Vairamudi festival in March/April. More than a lakh visitors congregate here for the festival. This place is also famous for its handloom cloth.

  • Talakadu : is situated on the banks of the river Cauvery and is buried beneath sand dunes. Its temples are opened for worship on special occasions once in 12 years.
