Rishikesh
:
(Uttranchal) - 250 kms
North-East of Delhi.
Rishikesh, the beginning
point of the pilgrimage to
Chardham (Yamnotri, Gangotri,
Kedarnath & Badrinath),
invites million for the holy
dip in the Ganges. It is
from this point, that a lot
of adventure seekers start
their trekking expeditions
to the Himalayan peaks.
While
hotels in and around town
centre are good for tourists
who is looking for a bit of
sightseeing, temple / ghat
visits etc, the riverside
resorts and camps on the
Badrinath Road are the ones
that would be of interest
for a getaway seeker.
Just
a few kilometers outside of
the town is Gangaa
Resort. This is a good
option for guests who want a
getaway resort Adventure
experience and still remain
close to Rishikesh /
Haridwar. Glasshouse
on the Ganges, 23 kms
from Rishikesh, an orchard
retreat, a relaxing spread
out riverside option having
cottages with terraces. Near
Glasshouse, Explore
Himalaya Resort is a
hotel atop a hill
overlooking the river with
large open spaces and a
terrace. Himalayan
Hideaway is a riverside
option akin glasshouse but
without river views (due to
thick tree cover). Anand
Lok Resort is a small
resort by the river.
There
are several camps by the
river from around 15 kms
point from Rishikesh on the
badrinath route till about
35 kms. These camps are
mostly seasonal (Sept -
April) and where the main
activity is white water
rafting in River ganges.
Camps have evolved into
adventure base where
ex-Delhi groups come over
for a weekend of activity
and fun. Activity individual
guests also come looking for
rafting, trekking,
rappelling and generally a
riverside experience. Camps
are simple and often dont
have attached bathrooms and
have simple common
facilities and basic camping
tents.
Some
such as Gangabanks
Riverside Resort, High
Banks Himalayan Retreat
and Camp
Panther have more than
basic amenities now and are
more like camp resorts. [ Full
