THIMPHU TOWN - Thimphu is a small, charming capital city, probably the smallest capital in the world, resting in the heart of the Himalayas. It sits in its own valley fanning out from the river. The skyline hardly changes as new buildings are all constructed in traditional Bhutanese style. Though a small town, Thimphu is a charming place. Every shop is stacked with multiple products -from grocery to textiles to shoes and handicraft products. Increasing number of shops sell imported goods brought in from Thailand, Hong Kong and Singapore because of Druk Air's connection to Bangkok. The town is also filled with bars selling all kinds of alcoholic drinks.

TASHICHHODZONG - Tashichhodzong, "Fortress of the Glorious Religion", is the most stately and most impressive building in Bhutan. The dzong housed the original National Assembly and now houses the secretariat throne room and the offices of the King of Bhutan. 
NATIONAL LIBRARY - The National Library was established in 1967 to preserve many ancient Dzongkha and Tibetan texts. 
SCHOOL OF ARTS AND CRAFTS - The School of Arts and Crafts, commonly known as painting school, offers an eight year course which provides instruction in many of Bhutan's traditional arts to boys throughout the country 
ZANGTHOPELRI LHAKHANG - This private chapel, built in the 1990s by Dasho Aku Tongmi, a musician who composed Bhutan's National Anthem
MEMORIAL CHORTEN - Right in the centre of Thimphu City stands this colorful Chorten (Stupa). This large Tibetan style chorten was built in 1974

CHANGLIMITHANG STADIUM - The National Stadium occupies the field where in 1885, a battle took place that helped the supremacy of Ugyen Wangchuk, Bhutan's King. 
BBS TOWER-SANJAYGANG - There is a wonderful view of Thimphu valley from this point
SIMTOKHA DZONG - Simtokha is about 5km south of Thimphu on the road to Paro and Phuentsholing. Officially known as "Sangkak Zabdhon Phodrang"(Palace of the Profound Meaning of Secret Mantras)
DOCHULA PASS - Dochula pass at 3150m is marked by a large array of prayer flags and a chorten. On the hill above the pass is a cafeteria that affords (on a clear day) a close-up view of the Bhutan Himalaya. There is a powerful binocular telescope in the cafeteria.
