Itinerary
in Assam - Assam
in the east of India has one of the finest parks in India i.e. Kaziranga which
is known world over for its population for one-horned rhinos and Tigers and now
also a popular birding destination. Kaziranga is home also to elephants,
sloth bears, tigers, leopard cats, jungle cats, hog badgers, capped langurs, hoolock
gibbons, pigs, jackals, porcupines, pythons, wild buffaloes, Indian bison,
swamp deer, sambhars and hog deer. Besides these, the park has a respectable avian
population, which increases considerably in the winter, when migrating birds visit
the park. In 1974 it was designated a national park. Bounded by the
misty blue hills of Barail and Karbi Anglong to the south, the national
park was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985. Guests have stayed here
from 1 night to 4 weeks exploring Kaziranga and neighboring Nameri Reserve. Manas
National Park, a World Heritage Site declared by UNESCO in 1985 and a Project
Tiger reserve, is located at the base of foothills of the Bhutan Himalayas in
the state of Assam. The park is also a haven for no less than 20 highly endangered
species. Two of the unique residents of the park are the Hispid Hare and the Pygmy
Hog. Some of the other animals that can be sighted in the park are Gaurs, Swamp
Deer, Capped Langurs, Golden Langurs, Assamese Macaques, Slow Loris, Hoolock Gibbons,
