It
is rich in wildlife -elephant, gaur, deer and primates like the bonnet macaque
and the langur. Among the predator animals are the tiger, the leopard and the
dhole or wild dogs. Like its adjoining parks, Madumalai is rich in bird life.
The Annamalai sanctuary, some 80 km south of Madumalai, has two rare species of
primates - the Nilggiri lanur and the lion tailed macaque. Tamilnadu
Forest Dept Runs mini buses for Safari rides and the resorts at Masinagudi, 7
kms from Madumalai provide assistance for availing the same. |

The
park is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna typical of the South Western
Ghats. There are over 2000 species plants of which about 400 species are of prime
medicinal value. Mammals in the Park include tiger, leopard, sloth bear,
the Asiatic wild dog, golden jackal, leopard cat, jungle cat, rusty-spotted cat,
elephant, gaur, sambar, spotted deer, barking deer etc. Over 250 species of birds
have been identified in the Park Banyan
