Cauvery River, Cauvery Fishing Camp (Galibore, Dodamakkali, Bheemshwari) (Near Mysore, Karnataka)

Four different kinds of Mahseer are found in these waters - Silver, Gold, balck and Pink.Other fish often found are carp , catfish and many small ones useful as bait.

Galibore Fishing and Nature Camp help anglers with their knowledge of the waters and are experienced fishermen themselves. They also are adept at using the coracle boats (native, circular boats made out of buffalo hide) and can move guests from place to place in the waters. Camp provides the coracles to cross the river and also to help with the landing of fish

Fishing is done during the morning, which lasts from first light until midday and then again from 4 o'clock until nightfall. Also, only a maximum of 10 rods are allowed to be in the water during a single session. Fishing techniques that are possible on these waters are Bait fishing, Fly fishing and Spinning. Bait is also provided, baked Ragi (millets) paste, freshwater crabs, chilva and sometimes figs are the main ones used.

TACKLE - Though we have a few tackles on hire, we request guests to get their own tackle as personal preference is a factor.

Cauvery River, near Madikeri (Kodagu Dist., Coorg , Karnataka)

The Coorg Wildlife Association, Madikeri provides information on fishing license and guides for Mahseer fishing. Fishing licenses are mandatory for all eager anglers. Fishing licenses are not issued during the monsoon (when most fish species breed); in addition, most licenses are issued for only a specified stretch of water. Furthermore, there are stipulations that all fish caught must be released into the water, and anglers are restricted to a specified number of fish per day. Ladyfish fishing is also another option that can be considered. Homestays and Plantation Stays in Madikeri provides assistance for procuring required permissions

  • The tributaries include the Neugal, Binwa & Aiwa. Fish of 4 kg to 5 kgs catch  is abundant whilst 8kg to 10 kg is fairly common though we are aware that recently a 14 kg was caught and its head is preserved by the angler.

  • Golden Mahseer (Hunch Back) with whiskers is available in the dam whilst the silver and black mahseer is also found largely in the tributaries.

  • License per rod is to be obtained which costs Rs. 40 per rod per day. It is not difficult to obtain.

  • The River Beas is 5 km and the Pong Dam starts 10 km away from The Judge's Court.

  • Thereafter the Pong Dam spreads quite far, say upto about 30 - 40 km distance. The tributaries of the Beas are about 30 to 80 km distance. For angling, the spread of the area is from 6.km to 40 km on either side of The Judge's Court.

  • Guests will bring their own equipment. Spoons and spinners will do the job and heavy tackles are not required.
