Lyon's Roman theatre is the oldest in France, built by order of Augustus from 17 to 15 BC. It is a typical stone ruin shaped like an open amphitheatre. It was built next to the hill of Fourvière, which is located in the center of the Roman city and holds a capacity of housing 4500. It will remind you of a scene out of the movies featuring gladiators.
    Historic Site
The chapel is situated on a hillock and is visible from all over the city. Gilt, marble work, stained glass windows, and coloured mosaics work inside the chapel will leave you spellbound. Beneath the main level is the crypt of Saint-Jean, which is unusually large and well-lit.The exterior is not as pleasing and the gilded interior. Adjoining the basilica is the ancient Chapel of the Virgin and a terrace that provides a panoramic view of the cathedral and city of Lyon.
