The grand structure was built in the 16th century replacing a mosque. The foundation was laid in Gothic architecture but the interior of the cathedral was done in the renaissance style. Admire the magnificent artwork and the glittering altar gilded by gold. The dome holds painting that dates back to the 16th century. There is an entrance fee of 4 euros but it surely is worth a visit. Do not miss the paintings and artefacts stored in the cathedral museum.
    Mosque or Dargah
Indulge your senses in an exquisite Hamam bath at Aljibe de San Miguel that houses 7 pools with different temperature to suit your preference. You will feel you have been transformed to a different era as the baths are decorated with traditional mosaic tiles that reflect vivid patters through the water in the pool. You can club the experience with a relaxing massage. It is definitely worth your while.
    Historic Site
It is recommended that you book you tickets in advance because this opulent sight attracts upto 6000 visitors daily in summer. The place is a network of fortress (the Alcazaba), palace (Palacios Nazaries), garden (the Generalife) and part government city (the Medina) that house some of the most beautiful artefacts that date back centuries. The name Alhambra means the 'Red Castle' and is the symbol of the last Moorish stronghold. The massive fort of Alcazaba offers a fantastic view of nearly the entire city and the Sierra Nevada. From the ruins you will understand that it once housed the soldiers. The palace of Charles V was built much later in the 16th century. The architecture is a typical Renaissance one that houses two museums containing collections of Alhambra artists. The Biggest and the most crowded part of the fortress is the Nasrid royal palace. The palace is embellished with wooden ceilings carved in a typical Moorish style with colourful ceramic tiles and plasterwork. Chamber of the Ambassadors, the palace's largest and perhaps most spectacular room, which once functioned as the throne room. Apart from this do not miss the twelve Lion statues at the fountain in the courtyard, Court of the Myrtles and the Washington Irving Room, where Washington Irving wrote Tales of the Alhambra. There is yet so much to see so it is best if you take a tour around the place. When you exit you will pass through the gorgeous gardens of the Nasrid king: Generalife. You will find exquisite bed of colourful flowers and leaping fountains.
    Heritage Site
Part of a UNESCO World Heritage site dates back to the fourteenth century and was built as a defensive town. It was one of the main centres under the Muslim rule and now, more like a township. The town faces the Alhambra and offers a magnificent view of the fortress and the Sierra Nevada. Make sure you hang around the place till the evenings such that you can get a beautiful view of the Alhambra illuminated. It is a group of minarets and churches that are connected by small cobbled streets that house many tourist shops and restaurants.
