    Schloss Neuschwanstein is probably the world's most famous fairytale like castle set atop a mountain near Füssen. Designed as a romantic medieval castle, the Neuschwanstein castle was commissioned by King Ludwig as a personal retreat and a homage to Richard Wagner. Although the work for the castle begun in 1869, like many of Ludwig II's ambitious projects, it was never finished. This castle is one of the most visited places in Germany, with over 1.3 million people visiting it annually.

    Schloss Hohenschwangau is a 19th century castle located in the Hohenschwangau Village near Füssen. The Hohenshwangau castle was the childhood residence of King Ludwig II. King Ludwig II's father, Crown Prince Maximillian II, rebuilt this castle in a Gothic style on the ruined castle of Schwanstein. The interior of the castle is decorated with scenes from medieval legends and poetry.

    Hohen Schloss is one of Füssen's most prominent landmarks built in gothic style in 1486-1505 as summer residence of the bishops of Augsburg.
