    Brunelleschi's Cupola (or the dome) is a part of the Cathedral itself. Do make sure you pay a special visit to the masterpiece of Brunelleschi. It represents the event that marked the beginning of the Renaissance; the rediscovery of building models from the classical age and the contemporary changes in architecture.

    The Duomo is dedicated to Santa Maria del Fiore and is designed in a typical Italian Gothic architecture. Its exterior, made of green, pink, and white marble, has several elaborate doors and interesting statues. The building was designed by Arnolfo di Cambio (1245-1302), one of the greatest architect and sculptors of his age. What adds colour to the quaint architecture are the beautiful stain glassed windows. It houses artworks from the Gothic Cathedral, the Baptisty and the Tower of Giotto (campanile). Uffizi houses masterpieces by Italian and foreign artists from the 13th to the 18th century, such as Cimabue, Giotto, Masaccio, Beato Angelico, Leonardo da Vinci, Botticelli, Pierodella Francesca, Raphael, Caravaggio, along with Rubens, Rembrandt, Dürer, Goya and many others.
