Wadi Bani Khalid is the best-known wadi of the Sharqiyah region and reputedly one of the best in Oman. Located at 200 kms from Muscat, the valley maintains a constant flow of water from a natural spring all around the year. The crystal green and blue water catchment pockets surrounded by dramatic rocks make for wonderful natural pools to take a dip in. The pools near the entrance of the wadi are often crowded on weekends, but those willing to hike into the main wadi are rewarded with secluded pristine pools. The year round water supply encourages lush green vegetation in the surrounding areas adding to the wadi's beauty. Besides its secluded natural pools of water, the wadi is famous for its natural caves. Wadi Bani Khalid is a must visit diversion on the Muscat-Sur highway, or a destination on its own.
