Schloss Mirabell (Photo Courtesy: Andrew Bossi)

Prince-Archbishop Wolf Dietrich had grand palace built for his mistress Salome Alt in 1606. The minute you enter the vicinity, you are sure to get mesmerised by the gardens. The lithe Tänzerin (dancer) sculpture is a great spot to photograph the gardens with the fortress as a backdrop. Sound of Music fans will of course recognise the Pegasus statue, the steps and the gnomes of the Zwerglgarten (Dwarf Garden), where the von Trapps practised 'Do-Re-Mi'. The palace by itself was refurbished in a Baroque style by ohann Lukas von Hildebrandt, known for Schloss Belvedere. The Marmorsaal (Marble Hall) provides a sublime backdrop for evening chamber concerts.
