Sankt Georgenberg - Fiecht (Photo Courtesy: Wolfgang H. Wögerer, Wien)

Perched in a narrow gorge on a rock 100 metres above the waters of river Inn is this extraordinary Benedictine monastery. The Monastry was rebuilt in the 17th century and again in the 10th century (originating from the mid-10th century) is accessible only by the wooden bridge across the valley floor. The monastery is a major pilgrimage spot and a wonderful, but steep, walk along the River Inn through the narrow confines of the gorge. Train from Innbruck to Stans-bei-Schwaz (30 minutes) - then simply follow the track up the hill and into the gorge.
