Karkala is a town of historical importance and a pilgrim centre for Jains. Jainism is widely practised here. The single stone 42-foot statue Gomateshwara (Lord Bahubali) is main attraction and is the second tallest in Karnataka. There are about 18 Jain basadis here.Attur nearby is also home to impressive St Lawrence Church.
