Akola fort (also called Asadgad or Asagad) is perhaps the oldest structure in Akola. Akola was fortified in late 17th Century during the reign Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb by Asad Khan (thus the name Asadgad). There is a Shiva Temple inside the fort which is the oldest temple in the area.
