Fernhill Palace – Heritage Experience
(Nivalink Trip Dated - 23 May 2005)
Ooty (7500 feet) is one of the premier hill stations of India. Its known for its colonial heritage feel, heritage train, tea plantations around it, a wonderful weather all through the year (especially in summer) and a lot of boarding schools.
Fernhill Palace is an erstwhile Summer Palace and now a heritage hotel, part of a large heritage in Ooty. A large colonial styled Palace hotel with an history dated back to Mid-1800s, Fernhill Palace even till today still has Royals owning it and have been restored to something that is nothing short of an experience.
19 suites each with an average area of 900 sq.ft or more. Every suite is an elaborate setting designed in teak wood paneling, comprising of a large lounge with bay windows, bedroom, dressing room and a luxuriant bathroom with private Jacuzzi. Victorian furniture and its colonial furnishings still exude the same charm as it once did while the interiors are an attractive blend of gothic, regency and neo-classical renaissance. There is a spreadout heritage estate around it. The Restaurant serves Anglo Indian cuisine alongwith Royal recipes from Wodeyar family Kitchen. All this constitutes an experience that is not matched anywhere with any Summer Palace at any hill station in India.
Fernhill Palace is a must for any premium heritage traveler and anyone looking for a bit of a stay experience. Fernhill Palace is also recommended for honeymooners and those who are looking for some style and differentiated holiday.
