Almond Villa Experience

Homestay | Heritage Homestay

Almond Villa is a homestay experience, set in a colonial structure located amidst forty acres of orchards next to the Dal Lake. Viv Chauhan, of royal Kashmiri pundit family, is the host of Almond Villa. Encouraging local culture, the homestay is also the venue for the Dara Shikoh Centre for the arts. It organizes heritage, music, theatre and environment awareness programs for those who want to experience and become a part of the local culture.

The ancestral mansion’s frontal lounge offers a perfect view of famous Dal Lake, surrounded by lush green mountains. The house has its own front and back garden full of variety of flowers. It attracts many woodpeckers, sparrows, pigeons, bulbuls and other birds.

Almond Villa has five double bedrooms, three on the first floor and two on the ground floor. The central atrium/dining hall, with wooden floor and a king-size dining table is big enough to cater to a large group of guests at the same time. There is a back garden of the homestay where one can enjoy evening snacks/refreshments or the Kashmiri ‘Kavha chai’.

The house is located on the flank of the Shankaracharya hill with the famous Shiv stone temple (finds its origin in the 4th century) at the summit. Right across from it is the Zabarwan range with the ruins of the Pari Mahal, which is also said to be the library of Dara Shikoh, the mughal prince-philosopher. A shikara can be taken at the gate of the property for a lovely ride upto the mughal gardens: Shalimar and Nishat. Two kilometers down the Bolulevard road is the beautiful Chasm-e-Shahi garden. Another attraction to the destination is ‘Royal Springs Golf Course’ for golf enthusiasts.

Almond villa is perfect for those who seek homely hospitality, excellent views, green surroundings, accommodation and offerings that capture heritage of the area and a feeling of space & tranquility all around it. A few families, group of friends, senior citizens, homestay enthusiasts or any one seeking off the beaten track experience would find Almond villa nothing less than a hidden gem.

Stay duration: 3 nights are min recommended and is the typical stay duration.
