Detailed Itinerary

Day-1 Ooty arrival Arrive at Ooty (7000+ ft asl). Boating in lake in the evening is touristy but popular.

Day-2 In and around Ooty Sightseeing options closer to ooty to consider comprise Dodabetta Peak, Raj Bhawan, St Stephens Church, Rose garden, Botanical garden, Shooting point, Wax Museum.

Day-3 Ooty - Wayanad  Proceed to Wayand (Kalpetta) (116 kms - 3.5 hrs). The road passes through plantations, thick forests and rivulets offering stunning views. This is the same area where Virappan, a dreaded local dacoit and sandlewood smuggler was operative till early 2000s before he was killed. Evening visit to Banasurasagar Dam (18 kms).

Day-4 Wayanad Local  Explore sightseeing around Wayanad such as Edakkal Caves, Pookode Lake / Boating, Soochipara Waterfalls, Ancient Jain Temple.

Day-5 Ooty - Mysore. Evening visit to Brindavan gardens or Srirangapatnam Proceed to Mysore (140 kms - 3 hrs). Post lunch visit Railway Muesum. Evening visit to Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary (Boat ride around bird nests) and Brindavan Garden OR Srirangapatnam and Ranganathaswany Temple.

Day-6 Mysore and around  Local sightseeing options include like Mysore Zoo, St. Philomena's Church, Mysore Palace, 150 years old Jaganmohan Palace. Evening visit Chamundi Hills and visit Nandi bull Temple. Temple offers excellent views of the area and considered one of the Shaktipeetha temples.

Day-7 Departure Depart for onward journey.

Detailed Sightseeing

Mysore :

  • Mysore Palace - Mysore palace is one of the most famous tourist attractions in India after Taj Mahal with more than 2.7 million visitors. The architectural style of the palace is commonly described as Indo-Saracenic but it is a blend of many other architectural styles. The palace is surrounded by a large garden. The palace is 3 storied and entry fee is required to enter. Tourists are not allowed to take photographs inside the palace. Every autumn, the Palace is the venue for the famous Mysore Dasara festival with the elephant procession on Dussera day being the most sought after event.

  • Rail Museum Mysore - Rail museum is located near the Mysore Railway station and is the second one of its kind established in India (First one is in Delhi). This museum exhibits ancient locomotives and carriages some of which are in working condition.

  • St Philomenas Church - St. Philomenas church in Mysore was constructed in 1936 using a Neo Gothic style and its architecture was inspired by the Cologne Cathedral in Germany. It still remains a tourist attraction.

  • Jaganmohan Palace - Jaganmohan Palace is a palace in Mysore (1861) and was initially used by the Wodeyars, kings of Mysore as their home before the grand Mysore Palace came up. It is now converted into an art gallery and a function hall. The art gallery contains one of the largest collection of artefacts in South India (2000+). Some of the paintings are those by Raja Ravi Varma. Paintings different Indian styles of painting such as Mysore, Mughal and Shantiniketan.

  • Mysore Zoo - Mysore Zoo (officially the Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens) is a 245-acre zoo located near the palace in Mysore. It was established under royal patronage in 1892 making it one of the oldest zoos in the world. It is home to a wide range of species and one of the major tourist attractions.

  • Chamundeshwari Temple - The Chamundeshwari Temple is an ancient Devi temple (12th - 17th Century) located on the top of Chamundi Hills. The temple is impressive from an architectural sense and considered a pilgrimage destination being considered one of the 18 main Shaktipeetha temples.

  • Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary - Rangantittu Bird Sanctuary is set on a a lake and is a major breeding site for several bird species including the Painted Stork, Open-billed Stork, Black-headed Ibis, River Tern, Great Stone Plover and Indian Shag. The boat ride is touristy but can be interesting for a bird watcher especially in Winter (Oct - March).

  • Brindavan Gardens - Brindavan Garden is a large garden next to the Dam built on cauvery and a major tourist attraction. The main attraction of the park is the musical fountain in which bursts of water are synchronised to the music of songs. There is also a lake within the garden with boating facilities available for visitors

Ooty :

  • Ooty Botanical Gardens - The Botanical Garden is spread over 22-acres and is in existance since mid 1800s. A flower show is held every May. The Gardens have around a thousand species of plants, shrubs, ferns, trees, herbal and bonsai plants.

  • Government Rose Garden - The Government rose garden is the largest rose garden in India with more than 20,000 varieties of roses

  • Wax Museum - A wax museum on ooty Coonoor road, that houses life-size wax statues of Indian personalities.

  • Raj Bhavan Ooty - Raj Bhavan Ooty is the Summer residence of the Governor of Tamil Nadu. Gardens here consists of ornamental gardens in an area of about 9 acres, a rich lawn on 3 acres, four rosaries, two lily ponds, a sunken garden, two green houses, a vegetable garden and a nursery.

  • Ooty Lake - Ooty lake is spread over 60 acres offers boating to tourists and is a major tourist.

  • St Stephens Church - St. Stephens Church on Mysore road is one of the oldest churches in the Nilgiris area dated back to the 19th century

  • Doddabetta Peak - A view point surrounded by dense shola forests from where one can have a panoramic view of the area.

Wayanad (Kalpetta) :

  • Pookode Lake - Pookode lake is set near Vythiri having a fresh water aquarium, children's park and boat house.

  • Banasura Sagar - Banasura Sagar Dam is one of the biggest Earth dam in Asia and it attracts lot of tourists for Boating.

  • Soochipara Falls - Soochipara Falls is a three-tiered 650+ feet waterfall in Wayanad at 15-20 minute drive from Meppadi. It takes 15 minutes walk from parking area to the waterfall. The cliff face here is excellent for rock climbing.

  • Edakkal Caves - Edakkal caves are renowned for its pre-historic carvings and paintings. The caves contain drawings that range over periods from as early as 5000 BC to 1000 BC.
