Detailed Itinerary

Day-1 Arrival at Matheran. Walking around Matheran. Evening visit to Sunset Point Arrival at Matheran. Matheran (2500+ ft asl), a colonial era hill station steeped in time with tropical forest chracter excellent for walking and offers Salibrious climate all round the year. Matheran is where cars are not allowed beyond a point 3 kms from market centre and therefore excellent for walking. Matheran is home to many view points such as Echo Point, One tree point, Charliotte Lake and Sunset point. Horse riding is a popular activity. Sunset point is a popular visit options where tourists converge.

Day-2 Walk to Lake, one tree point. Possible Horseriding. Walk around Matheran. Visit Market and do some shopping. Walk to Old Shiva Temple and Charlotte Lake (No Boating) and explore the tropical forest character of the area.

Day-3 Proceed to Mahabaleshwar via Lonavala and Pune.  Proceed to Mahabaleshwar (240 kms - 5 hours). Mahabaleshwar is a renowned hill station in Maharashtra visited for strawberries in Winter and a Salibrious climate all round the year. Enroute pass Lonavala, a renowned local getaway. Guests may choose to stopover and visit one of the adventure park in Lonvala for a few hours before proceeding to Mahabaleshwar.

Day-4 Panchgani Visit. Boating in Venna Lake. Visit twin hill station of Panchgani. Enroute visit Venna Lake and do some boating. At Panchgani, visit Table Top point and Mapro Jam Factory. Families with kids may look to visit Sherbaug Amusement park and On Wheelz Entertainment centre. Visit local markets in the evening.

Day-5 Mahabaleshwar Sightseeing Guests may do a bit of walking around Mahabaleshwar or do a horse ride on the trails around Mahabaleshwar. There are many view points like any hill station in Mahabaleshwar such as Wilson Point, Kates Point, Arthurs Seat and Elephant head point for guests to visit. During winter visit a strawberry farm. In the evening visit local markets for shopping. Guests with interest in Fort heritage of Maharashtra may visit Pratapgarh Fort (20 kms) and guests with interest in visiting old temples may visit Mahabaleshwara Temple in Kshetra Mahabaleshwar Area (10 kms).

Day-6 Departure Depart for onward Journey.

Mahabaleshwar :

  • Wilson Point - Wilson Point is the highest point in Mahabaleshwar at 4500+ ft asl. Wilson point is the only location in Mahabaleshwar where both sunrise and sunset can be seen. It offers a excellent top view of Mahabaleshwar. Wilson Point is standard sightseeing

  • Strawberry Farm Visit - Strawberry farms are situated all around Mahabaleshwar, most prominently on Mahabaleshwar - Panchgani Road. Its possible to visit them or just enjoy Strawberry crush / shake served by the stalls around them. Strawberry season is Jan - March. Besides Strawberries other fruits cultivated include Mulberry, Blue berry and raspberries.

  • Kates Point - Kates point is located to the east of Mahabaleshwar and is renowned for its view of two reservoirs from here. Kates point visit is part of standard sightseeing done by Toursts Cabs in Mahabaleshwar. Needle hole point is located near Kates Point. One can see a natural rock formation with a hole in between, thus giving the name Needle-hole

  • Mahabaleshwara Temple - Lord Shiva temple in Old Mahabaleshwar (known as Kshetra Mahabaleshwar). Mahabaleshwar got name from this temple.

  • Elephants Head Point - The Elephants Head Point is a view point at 12 kms from Mahabaleshwar. The view point is set on a rock that has a shape of elephants head.

  • Mapro Garden - Mapro garden is set on Mahabaleshwar - Panchgani road around Mapro Jam factory where one arrives for purchasing all kinds of local produce such as Strawberry Jams, crush etc. The snack counter outside that serves sandwiches and shakes is also very popular.

  • Arthurs Seat - Arthurs seat is a view point at about 4000 ft asl. Tourist cabs have this point in their tourist plans. Guests also visit Tiger Spring enroute. Guests also visit Dinosaur view point and Window point from Arthurs Seat (requires 200 ft walk).

  • On Wheelz - On Wheelz is an amusement park in Panchgani that offers all kinds of rides for kids and adults.

  • Pratapgarh Fort - Pratapgad fort (3000+ ft asl) is an King Shivaji era fort 15 kms off Mumbai - Goa highway

Matheran :

  • Walks around Matheran - Walking in Matheran is by default the first option to move around (others being hand cart or horseback). There are number of walking trails around Matheran that lead to the Charlotte lake and various points like Panorama Point etc. There are not many steep slopes and so overall its easy to walk. The entire Matheran is covered with thick trees and therefore excellent for a walk even in middle of the day.

  • Horseriding in Matheran - Horse riding in Matheran is popular with guests. Its the easiest way to traverse around Matheran between points without much effort. Horses are readily available for hire in the main market area and outside major hotels. Hire charges can vary based on season (Bargaining recommended).

  • Charlotte Lake - A prominent lake in Matheran that supplies water to the hill station. There is no boating here.

  • Sunset Point / Panorama Point - Sunset Point and Panorama Point (Sunrise point) are set in opposite direction at 2.5 kms from Matheran town centre. These offer excellent views of the valley and are popular points where tourists converge.

  • One Tree Hill Point - A big rock face having one tree atop a hill offering excellent views of the plains below.
