Detailed Itinerary

Day-1 Arrival at Wayanad. Evening visit to Banasurasagar Dam. Arrival at Wayanad (4500 ft asl - 80-120 kms - 2.5-4 hrs). Wayanad in North Kerala is an evergreen area renowned for its rainforest character, tea plantation, getaway resorts and salibrious climate all round the year. Evening visit to Banasurasagar Dam (18 kms).

Day-2 Wayanad Local Sightseeing Explore sightseeing around Wayanad such as Edakkal Caves, Pookode Lake / Boating, Soochipara Waterfalls, Ancient Jain Temple.

Day-3 Trekking / Temple visits / Jungle Safaris Guests may opt for trekking in Wayanad. Banasura hill Trek (3 kms - moderate trek) is easier option. Chembra Peak (5 kms) is another day trek option that is popular. Guests interested in Wildlife may take a Jeep Safari into Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary. Guests with interest in Bird watching with some prior planning can visit Kuruva Dweep (A delta and a reserve forest that requires permissions). Guests with interest in pilgrimage may visit 3000 year old Thirunelli Temple OR visit Pallinkunnu Church.

Wayanad (Vythiri) :

  • Pookode Lake - Pookode lake is set near Vythiri having a fresh water aquarium, children's park and boat house.

  • Anantnath Swami Temple - Anantnath Swami Temple is a Jain temple at 6 km from Kalpetta and is dedicated to Ananthnath Swami, a Jain Tirthankar.

  • Chembra Peak Trek - Chembra Peak is the highest peak in Wayanad, at 6,900 ft asl and accessible from Meppady via a 5 km trek. It is part of hill ranges in Western Ghats, adjoining the Nilgiri Hills in Tamilnadu. District Tourism Promotion Council provides guides and trekking equipment on hire charges to tourists. Permission from the forest office in Meppady is required for trekking up to Chembra Peak. A heart shaped lake on the way to the top of the peak is an attraction.

  • Banasura Sagar - Banasura Sagar Dam is one of the biggest Earth dam in Asia and it attracts lot of tourists for Boating.

  • Pallikunnu Church -

    Pallikunnu Church is a Latin Catholic church in the name of Our Lady of Lourdes at 14 km from Kalpetta is a renowned Pilgrim centre in north Kerala.

  • Soochipara Falls - Soochipara Falls is a three-tiered 650+ feet waterfall in Wayanad at 15-20 minute drive from Meppadi. It takes 15 minutes walk from parking area to the waterfall. The cliff face here is excellent for rock climbing.

  • Edakkal Caves - Edakkal caves are renowned for its pre-historic carvings and paintings. The caves contain drawings that range over periods from as early as 5000 BC to 1000 BC.

  • Banasura Hill Trek - A popular trek route with medium difficulty level, takes about 3 hours to reach to the top. Along the way one can stop over at Meenmutty waterfalls, a 900+ ft high waterfall. The hilltop offers spectacular views of the Banasurasagar Lake and the reserve forests around the area. Permission is required to be obtained for trekking up Banasura Hill.

  • Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary - Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary in Wayanad is a dense forest where Indian Bison, elephant, deer can be spotted here. The sanctuary is also home to a wide range of birdlife. Safaris in Muthanga is excellent for nature lovers and bird watchers.

  • Thirunelli Temple - Thirunelli Temple is a very ancient Lord Vishnu temple and a major pilgrim centre in Wayanad North Kerala. Thirunelli Temple lies on the Karnataka Border on the foothills of Brahmagiri hills and often base point for treks to Brahmagiri.
