Detailed Itinerary

Day-1 Arrive at Bangalore. Proceed to Mysore via Sravanbelagoda. Afternoon visit to Mysore Palace. Arrive at Bangalore and Travel to Mysore (150 kms - 3 hours). Mysore is a renowned tourist destination and popular with heritage travellers with Mysore Palace being the main attraction. Sightseeing tour of Mysore visiting Mysore Palace, Chamundi Hills, Nandi Bull Temple, 150 years old Jaganmohan Palace.

Day-2 Sightseeing and Excursions In around Mysore Proceed for local sightseeing such as St. Philomena's Church. Excursion to Somnathpur heritage Temples (50 kms) and Sravanbelagoda (Tipu Palace - 20 kms).

Day-3 Travel to Bandipur Via Mysore. Evening Safari. Proceed to Bandipur (80 kms - 2 hrs). Bandipur is a Wildlife destination enroute to Ooty in Karnataka renowned for its Tiger Population. Evening Safari in Bandipur.

Day-4 Morning Safari. Travel to Ooty. Visit Pykara falls enroute. Morning Safari. Proceed to Ooty (50 kms - 2 hrs). Enroute guests can visit Pykara Falls (25 kms). Visit local Markets.

Day-5 In and around Ooty Sightseeing options closer to Ooty to consider comprise Dodabetta Peak, Raj Bhawan, St Stephens Church, Rose garden, Botanical garden, Shooting point, Wax Museum.

Day-6 Excursion to Coonoor After Breakfast day excursion to Coonoor (25 kms) visit tea plantations, Catherine falls , Dolphin's Nose , Sim's park, and various other viewpoints.

Day-7 Departure Depart to Coimbatore (90 kms - 2.5 hours) for onward journey.

Detailed Sightseeing

Bandipur :

  • Wildlife and Bird watching at Bandipur - Bandipur forests with its deciduous habitat is the ideal spot for viewing animals like elephant, gaur, wild boar, sambhar. 200+ varieties of birds are spotted in the area especially in winter (Oct - March) such as Paradise Fly-Catcher, Hornbill, Woodpecker, Thrush, Crested Hawk Eagle etc. Jeep safaris are arranged by few lodges around the area.

Mysore :

  • Mysore Palace - Mysore palace is one of the most famous tourist attractions in India after Taj Mahal with more than 2.7 million visitors. The architectural style of the palace is commonly described as Indo-Saracenic but it is a blend of many other architectural styles. The palace is surrounded by a large garden. The palace is 3 storied and entry fee is required to enter. Tourists are not allowed to take photographs inside the palace. Every autumn, the Palace is the venue for the famous Mysore Dasara festival with the elephant procession on Dussera day being the most sought after event.

  • St Philomenas Church - St. Philomenas church in Mysore was constructed in 1936 using a Neo Gothic style and its architecture was inspired by the Cologne Cathedral in Germany. It still remains a tourist attraction.

  • Jaganmohan Palace - Jaganmohan Palace is a palace in Mysore (1861) and was initially used by the Wodeyars, kings of Mysore as their home before the grand Mysore Palace came up. It is now converted into an art gallery and a function hall. The art gallery contains one of the largest collection of artefacts in South India (2000+). Some of the paintings are those by Raja Ravi Varma. Paintings different Indian styles of painting such as Mysore, Mughal and Shantiniketan.

  • Chamundeshwari Temple - The Chamundeshwari Temple is an ancient Devi temple (12th - 17th Century) located on the top of Chamundi Hills. The temple is impressive from an architectural sense and considered a pilgrimage destination being considered one of the 18 main Shaktipeetha temples.

  • Chennakesava Temple Somnathpura - The Chennakesava Temple is a 13th Century Lord Vishnu temple at Somanathapura near Mysore and is one of the finest examples of Hoysala architecture. The temple is housed inside an impressive high wall and the entrance to the complex is through a porch with tall lathe-turned pillars. Somnathpura is an attraction for the travellers on the heritage circuit covering Mysore.

  • Sravanbelagola - Shravanabelagola is home to statue of Gommateshvara Bahubali and is one of the most important pilgrimage destinations in Jainism, The statue is set on a hill and requires climbing several hundred steps.

Ooty :

  • Ooty Botanical Gardens - The Botanical Garden is spread over 22-acres and is in existance since mid 1800s. A flower show is held every May. The Gardens have around a thousand species of plants, shrubs, ferns, trees, herbal and bonsai plants.

  • Government Rose Garden - The Government rose garden is the largest rose garden in India with more than 20,000 varieties of roses

  • Wax Museum - A wax museum on ooty Coonoor road, that houses life-size wax statues of Indian personalities.

  • Raj Bhavan Ooty - Raj Bhavan Ooty is the Summer residence of the Governor of Tamil Nadu. Gardens here consists of ornamental gardens in an area of about 9 acres, a rich lawn on 3 acres, four rosaries, two lily ponds, a sunken garden, two green houses, a vegetable garden and a nursery.

  • St Stephens Church - St. Stephens Church on Mysore road is one of the oldest churches in the Nilgiris area dated back to the 19th century

  • Doddabetta Peak - A view point surrounded by dense shola forests from where one can have a panoramic view of the area.

  • Pykara Lake - The Pykara Lake formed after a dam was constructed on Pykara river. There are two waterfalls over 50 meters height that are popularly known as Pykara falls and are a major tourist attraction. Enroute one also stops over at Shooting point, a point where many movies were shot in past.

  • Catherine Falls - Catherine Falls is a double-cascaded waterfall (250 ft height) located near Kotagiri and It is also a major tourist attraction.

Destination Overview

Coimbatore - Coimbatore is the second largest city in state of Tamil Nadu and a major textile and engineering hub. The plantation areas Coonnor and Valparai and hill station of ooty and kodaikanal are accessible from here.

Bangalore - Bangalore (now also called “Bengaluru”) is the state capital of Karnataka and one of the largest Software and ITES (IT Enabled services) center in the world. Bangalore is unofficially now considered as one of the metro cities of India (Alongwith Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and Delhi).

Mysore - Mysore is a heritage destination and well visited for the Mysore Palace and located most centrally to visit a wide ranging destinations around it.

Bandipur - Bandipur is located on the Mysor - Ooty route and is one of the renowned parks in South India known for their tiger sightings and excellent migratory bird population.

Ooty - Ooty (7500 ft asl) is one of the premier hill stations of India. It is known for its colonial heritage feel, heritage train, tea plantations around it, a wonderful weather all through the year (especially in summer) and is home to quite a few renowned boarding schools.
