Detailed Itinerary

Day-1 Arrival at Manali. Visits around Manali. Arrive at Manali (6500+ ft asl). Visit Jana waterfalls, a perennial waterfall at 40 kms from Manali (Jana waterfall is perennial and it is recommended to also have lunch at one of the Dhabas around here).

Day-2 Adventure around Manali Visit Solang Valley (15 kms), hub of adventure sports in Manali such as Paragliding, Zorbing etc. Solang Valley turns into a Ski resort in Winter.

Day-3 Manali - Kaza adventurous drive via Rohtang Pass and Kunzum La pass Proceed to Kaza (12000 ft asl - 180 kms - 8 hrs) via Atal Tunnel and Kunzum-la Pass (15000+ ft asl). This drive is adventurous and passes through riverbeds, glaciers and a route with stunning Himalayan backdrop alongside.

Day-4 Ki Monastery. Visit world Visit Ki Monastery (One of the most significant and ancient monasteries in the area), Gete at 14000+ ft asl and Kibber at 14000+ ft asl are known for being the highest inhabited villages in the world).

Day-5 Kaza Excursion - Visit Tabo and Dhankar Monasteries Visit Tabo (ancient monastery set at 11000 ft asl - 55 kms) and Dhankar Monastery (1000 year old ancient monastery set at 11000 ft asl) .Reach Kaza by evening.

Day-6 Kaza - Manali Early departure to Manali (180 kms - 8 hrs).

Day-7 Departure Depart for onward journey.

Detailed Sightseeing

Kaza :

  • Ki Monastery - Ki Gompa, is a 11th century monastery the largest in the valley. Located above Kaza at the height of 4116m, fine murals and valuable collection of Kangyur - ancient Buddhist texts are its attractions.

  • Gete and Kibber - 18 km from Kaza. The highest village in the world which is connected by a motorable road and also the highest village in the world which has its own polling station during elections.

  • Dhanker Monastery - 24 km from Tabo, 800 year old Dhanker Monastery is one of the most significant Tibetan Buddhism monastery in the area. The monastery overlooks the confluence of Pin and Spiti rivers. An hours walk from the monastery takes you to the beautiful Dhankar Lake.

  • Tabo Monastery - Tabo Monastery is situated in centre of Tabo. Tabo is home to the second most important Buddhist monastery in the entire Himalayan region - the Tabo Gompa. It is now more than 1000 years old.

  • Kunzum La Pass - Kunzum La Pass lies at about 15000+ ft asl and it connects Spiti Valley with Lahaul valley eventually connecting Manali - Leh route. Kunzum La Pass opens around 10th June and is one that offers one of the most rugged biking and driving experiences. Road between Gramphu and Kunzumla Pass (50 kms stretch) is actually a no mans land with no habitation, no cellphone signals and road passing through riverbeds and waterstreams

Manali :

  • Solang Valley Ropeway ride - 15 kms from Manali town centre is Sollang nullah, a hub for a range of adventure activities all round the year (Skiing in Winter and Paragliding / Zorbing etc. in Summer). Ropeway here is popular for some stunning views of the area.

  • Skiing in Solang Valley - Solang Valley, 15 kms from Manali town is home to skiing in Winter. Ski lifts have been setup in 2011 for organised skiing.

  • Atal Tunnel - Atal Tunnel is a tunnel built under the Rohtang Pass on the Leh-Manali Highway. It is historic as it cuts down the distance between Manali to Leh by 50 kms and makes Lahaul region of Himachal Pradesh accessible all round the year. Atal Tunnel is the longest high altitude tunnel of its kind in the world and has become a major touirst attraction eversince its opened and therefore must visit for all travellers.

  • Jana Waterfall - 40 kms from Manali, off Naggar road is village Jana. The waterfall is perennial and one also enjoys local cuisine served by Dhabas around here.

  • Rohtang Pass - 40 kms from Manali is Rohtang Pass, one that takes guests into Lahaul and Spiti valley. Rohtang Pass is open June - Sept. However tourists travel upto base of the Pass till Kothi (16 kms) and a bit beyond to enjoy snow experience that includes a bit of sliding and fun playing with snow. This area is extremely touristy in high season and often seas heavy traffic jams.

  • Fun Skiing at Rohtang - Rohtang Pass is an area where guests get to feel snow and play with it almost all round the year except a few months in monsoon (July-Sept). There is fun skiing, sliding, playing with snow and a kind of touristy carnival atmosphere around during summer season. While Rohtang may be 40 kms from Manali, guests dont always go all the way up and start as soon as they reach snowline which could vary in diff season (During Winter it snows in Manali itself, not requiring guests to really head for Rohtang)
