This is a popular pilgrim itinerary that allows guests to visit Kangra Devi Temples, Paonta Sahib / Anandpur Sahib / Golden Temple Gurdwaras, Vaishnodevi and some of other renowned temples and pilgrim centres in North India.

Detailed Itinerary

Day-1 Arrive at Ambala / Chandigarh. Visit Paota Sahib Arrive at Ambala / Chandigarh and proceed to Paonta Sahib (100 kms from Ambala - 2.5 hours), one of the most revered Gurudwaras as it is believed that Guru Gobind Singh's wrote many Sikh religious books here.

Day-2 Renukaji - Anandpur Sahib Proceed to Renuka Lake and Renukaji Temple (44 kms). Renuka Tirth is considered as birth place of Lord Parshuram, the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Further proceed to Anandpur Sahib (a Sikh Pilgrimage Centre and one of the five Takhts) and reach Ropar by evening.

Day-3 Naina Devi - Chintpurni - Jwalamukhi Visit Naina Devi Temple (22 kms from Anandpur Sahib), a renowned pilgrim centre on a hilltop that requires pilgrims to take cable car from the base of the hill. Proceed to Chintpurni (108 kms), dedicated to Chinnamastika Devi and one of the Shakti Peetha temples. From here proceed to Jwalamukhi (32 kms), a renowned pilgrimage centre where an eternal flame burns and is believed to be manifestation of the Goddess. Proceed to Palampur (95 kms - 1.5 kms).

Day-4 Chamunda Devi - Brajeshwari - Jammu Visit Chamundadevi Temple near Palampur (15 kms). Chamundadevi is a renowned pilgrim centre in the Kangra valley area. From Chamundadevi proceed to Vajreshvari Temple in Kangra Town (50 kms), one of the Shaktipeetha Temples.

Day-5 Jammu - Katra Visit temples of Jammu (Raghunath Mandir, Bawe Wali Mata Temple, Peer Kho Cave Temple, Ranbireshwar Temple) and reach Katra (50 kms from Jammu - 1.5 hours), base town to visit Vaishnodevi temple by evening.

Day-6 Vaishnodevi Darshan Early morning start for Vaishnodevi climb (Total 13 kms walk to the temple that takes about 4-5 hours). Enroute stops at Adhkwari Temple and darshan at Baba Bhaironath Temple is recommended). During Summer and peak travel season it may be advisable to start the climb previous evening. Once queue tickets are purchased the wait period could be half an hour to 3 hours depending on the rush. During season Yatra Parchi (entry tickets required to beging the uphill walk), it is recommended to purchase in advance to avoid delays. Guests looking for Helidarshan (Helicopter ride, darshan and back), morning flights are recommeded for best weather and least uncertainity. Return by late evening.

Day-7 Katra - Amritsar. Visit Golden Temple in the evening. Proceed to Amritsar (250 kms - 6 hours). Evening visit Golden temple, the most revered pilgrim centre for Sikh, one of the five Takhts and a renowed tourist attraction.

Day-8 Amritsar - Chandigarh. Mansadevi Darshan. Proceed to Chandigarh (250 kms - 5 hours). Visit Mansadevi Temple at Panchkula (near Chandigarh), a renowned local pilgrimage centre.

Day-9 Departure Visit the Chandidevi temple and depart for the onward journey.

Detailed Sightseeing

Amritsar :

  • Golden Temple - Golden Temple (also known as the Sri Harmandir Sahib) was designed by the fifth Guru of Sikhs, Guru Arjan Sahib and was built in 1601 AD. Akal takht here is one of the Five Takhts of Sikhism and therefore the most important from the Sikh pilgrimage perspective. Golden temple remains the prime reason why tourists make a visit to Amritsar. Golden temple is also perhaps the most visited Sikh Pilgrimage destination in the world and visited by devotees from all religions.

Chandigarh :

  • Mansa Devi Temple - Mansa Devi Temple, Panchkula (10 kms from Chandi Temple) is one of the most visited temples in the area. The temple complex is spread over 100 acres.

  • Gurudwara Sisganj Sahib - Gurudwara Sisganj Sahib in Anandpur Sahib is the holy place where the 9th Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib was cremated in 1675

  • Naina Devi Temple - Naina Devi Temple is situated on a hilltop at about 60 kms North of Chandigarh overlooking the Gobind Sagar lake. The temple is connected with National Highway No. 21 and accessible via a cable car ride from the base point. Naina Devi Temple is significant regionally and is a well visited temple throughout the year. Naina Devi Temple is also widely regarded as one of the Shakti Peetha.

Jammu :

  • Raghunath Temple - Most popular temple in Jammu, situated in the heart of the city and surrounded by a group of other temples, this temple dedicated to Lord Rama.

  • Ranbireshwar temple - A Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, on the Shalimar Road in Jammu near the New Secretariat, and built by Maharaja Ranbir Singh in1883 AD.

  • Bahu Fort - 5 kms from Jammu city situated on a rock face on the left bank of the river Tawi, this is perhaps the oldest fort and edifice in the city. Constructed originally by Raja Bahulochan over 3,000 years ago. The temple inside is dedicated to the Goddess Kali popularly known as Bave wali Mata.

  • Peer Kho Cave - Peer Kho Cave temple is a Lord Shiva temple on the bank of river Tawi and it is widely believed that Ramayan character Jamvant (the bear god) meditated in this cave

  • Vaishnodevi Temple - Vaishnodevi is one of the most visited temples in India. Its accessible via a 13 kms arduous climb or on a palanquin or via a helicopter ride. Enroute to Vaishnodevi temple following temples are also visited by Devotees * Banganga - 01 Km * Charan Paduka - 2.5 Kms * Adhkuwari - 6 Kms * Himkoti - 8.5 kms * Sanjichhat - 9.5 Km * Bhawan - 13.0 Kms * Bhairon Ghati (Via Bhawan) - 14.5 Kms

Katra :

  • Ardhkuwari Temple - Ardhkuwari Temple is located halfway enroute Katra - Vaishnodevi yatra. It is believed that Yatra is incomplete without a Darshan of Ardhkuwari Temple.

  • Vaishnodevi Temple - Vaishnodevi is one of the most visited temples in India. Its accessible via a 13 kms arduous climb or on a palanquin or via a helicopter ride. Enroute to Vaishnodevi temple following temples are also visited by Devotees * Banganga - 01 Km * Charan Paduka - 2.5 Kms * Adhkuwari - 6 Kms * Himkoti - 8.5 kms * Sanjichhat - 9.5 Km * Bhawan - 13.0 Kms * Bhairon Ghati (Via Bhawan) - 14.5 Kms

  • Baba Bhaironath Temple - Baba Bhaironnath Temple is a temple that is visited after Vaishnodevi Darshan. It is believed that the yatra is not complete without the darshan.

Nahan :

  • Renuka Lake - Renuka lake (2000 ft asl) is the largest lake in Himachal Pradesh, with a circumference of about 3214 m and is considered Holy and home to Renuka temple which is a popular local pilgrimage. Boating is available on the lake. A lion safari and a zoo are popular visit options as well at Renuka.

  • Gurudwara Paonta Sahib - Gurdwara Paonta Sahib is situated mid-way between Dehradun and Nahan (50 kms either way) and a major pilgrim centre for Sikhs.

Palampur :

  • Chamunda Devi Temple - Just 24 km from Kangra and 15 km from Dharamshala is the famous temple of goddess Chamunda Devi (Chamunda Nandikeshwar Dham). The temple complex offers view of Dhauladhar, the Baner Khad and Dadh. A vast running water pool houses the statues of Lord Shiva and Saraswati. A trek of about 16 km up in the Dhauladhar ranges is the ancient temple of Aadi Himani Chamunda

  • Vajreshvari Temple - Heart of Old Kangra Town is Vrajeshwari Temple, one of the Shaktipeetha temples and visited alongwith Chintpurni and Jwalamukhi Temple as a part of Devi temples.

Ropar :

  • Gurudwara Sisganj Sahib - Gurudwara Sisganj Sahib in Anandpur Sahib is the holy place where the 9th Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib was cremated in 1675

Destination Overview

Nahan - Nahan is a nature centric getaway and base town to visit Renuka Lake, a local pilgrim centre.

Ropar - Ropar lies only 50 kms from Chandigarh. The major pilgrimage destinations in Ropar comprise Naina Devi, Anandpur Sahib and Chamkaur Sahib (16 kms). The famous Bhakra dam in Nangal lies on the boundary with the neighbouring state of Himachal Pradesh.

Palampur - Palampur also known as the 'Tea Capital of North India,' is a popular hill station. Palampur is rich in historic temples and forts and known for its spectacular himalayan views.

Jammu - Jammu is a point of access for visiting Vaishnodevi Temple, which is 13 km walk from Katra (50 km from Jammu) and home to Raghunath Temple.

Katra - Katra, is base town to visit Vaishno Devi temple which is 13 kms walk (or a helicopter ride) away from here.

Amritsar - Amritsar is a major destination in India where guests arrive to visit the "Golden Temple", a Sikh pilgrimage center and a major tourist attraction from visitors all over India and those arriving into India.

Chandigarh - Chandigarh is a major business centre and hub for Software, IT and ITES companies. Chandigarh is a tourist destination being a transit point for guests on Delhi - Manali route and an access point to visit neighboring hills of Himachal Pradesh and hill station of Shimla.
