Detailed Itinerary

Day-1 Arrival at Ahmedabad. Visit Sarkhej Roza and Adalaj Stepwells in the afternoon. Arrival at Ahmedabad. Visit 15th Century Sarkhej Roza (known as Ahmedabad's Acropolis) spread over 34 acres and Adalaj Stepwells in the afternoon. Dinner at Agazhiye, a Popular ethnic Gujarati cuisine restaurant (part of heritage hotel House of MG) is a popular option.

Day-2 Visit heritage monuments in Ahmedabad Old city Heritage walk in the morning. During the day visit Calico Museum of Textiles, Jama Masjid, Mahatma Gandhi Sabarmati Ashram. Evening visit to local markets for shopping for crafts.

Day-3 Excursion to Visit Modhera Sun Temple and Patan Step well. Drive to the 11th century Sun Temple of Modhera (UNESCO site). From here travel to Patan, magnificently carved 11th century stepwells. Both sites are managed by Archelogical Survey of India (ASI). Patan is know for its unique textile craft known as Patola.

Ahmedabad :

  • Jama Masjid - Jama Masjid in old city is an impressive architectural marvel where the prayer area can host as many as 3000 persons at a time. Its one of the most impressive mosques in entire India. Must visit for a heritage traveller.

  • Sabarmati Ashram - Sabarmati Ashram served as Mahatma Gandhis Home for much of his later life and its now converted into a kind of Gandhi museum where one gets a peek into Gandhis unique simple lifestyle, spin a charkha and get a feel of the independence movement.

  • Calico Museum of Textiles - Calico Museum is a private collection of Indian textiles by Sarabhai family and very popular with inbound travellers. Museum can be visited only as a part of guided tour which requires a prior reservation.

  • Sarkhej Roza - Sarkhej Roza is a mosque located in the village of Makraba, 7 km south-west of Ahmedabad in Gujarat state, India. The mosque is known as "Ahmedabads Acropolis", due to 20th century architect Le Corbusiers famous comparison of this mosques design to the Acropolis of Athens. Sarkhej Roza is the most revered among rozas in Gujarat. Sarkhej was once a prominent centre of Sufi culture in the country and a must visit for any heritage traveller.

  • Modhera Sun temple - The Sun Temple (1026 AD) at Modhera in Gujarat, is a temple dedicated to the Hindu Sun-God, Surya. Sun temple today is a well maintained site and a popular visit enroute for all travellers. There is a stepwell within a temple complex and Sun temple is characterised by erotic carvings.

  • Stepwell at Patan - Rani-ki-Vav at Patan (11th Century) is a set of stepwells and is part of the UNESCO World Heritage site List since 1998. This magnificent east facing step well measures approximately 64m long, 20m wide & 27m deep. A stepped corridor compartmented at regular intervals with pillared multi-storeyed pavilions is a unique feature. It was one of the largest and the most sumptuous structures of its type. There are many Tourist Attractions around Patan including Forts, Vavs (Step Wells), Talavs (Lakes) and places of worships. Salvivad, a place where Patolas (Textile handicraft) are woven along with places where traditional clay toys are made are also worth visiting. Patan is typically visited enroute from Ahmedabad to Mount Abu / Palanpur / Ambaji or as excursion ex-Ahmedabad alongwith Modhera Sun Temple.
