Republic Day commemorates the adoption of the constitution of India. On 26th January 1950, India adopted its new constitution and became a Republic.
Republic day in Delhi is a celebrated with lot of pomp and festivities. The President, Prime Minister and his Cabinet plus an international top level invitee (President or head of state of another country) grace the occasion.
As a part of Republic day parade, the military demonstrates its might with an air show and different states present a unique cultural fare depicting dance, music and heritage of the state.

The festival starts with the address of the Prime Minister of India to the nation from ramparts of the Red Fort.
