An important festival in Tamil Nadu, it is celebrated with much fanfare in Pondicherry. The annual festival takes place on the full moon day in the Tamil month of Masi which falls in between February and March.
Idols of gods and goddess that are worshipped in temples are carried in a procession to sea shores. The procession is followed by pujas and rituals on the shore. Thousands of people, locals and tourists, gather to witness this auspicious event.
