Lumbini Festival in Telangana
The Lumbini festival celebrates the Buddhist Heritage of Telangana area (erstwhile part of Andhra Pradesh state). This festival is celebrated in Nagarjuna Sagar and Hyderabad for three days from second Friday of December, every year.
The Buddhist culture, tradition, art and religion are the main attractions of this festival. Various cultural activities and shows, local craft and art exhibitions are organised. The tourism department also makes arrangements for thousands of tourists and pilgrims that gather here for this festival.
The festival is named after the place Lumbini, which is considered the birth place of Gautam Buddha. The festival marks the importance of Buddhism in Andhra Pradesh, as 2000 years ago Buddhism was the only prevailing religion in the state.
