Ganga Mahaotsava is a 5-day festive event held after Diwali on the banks of Ganges in Varanasi. The venue for the festival is the Sant Ravidas Ghat.
The 5-day long carnival brings together India's craft and culture at one single place. It is a festive introduction to India as a whole and Uttar Pradesh in particular, where the extensive range of art, craft, culture and cuisine are on display.
On the closing day of Ganga Mahaotsav, millions of earthen lamps (diyas) light up the ghats. The Mahaotsav also is a platform for the 10-day National Craft Festival, which showcases work of artisans from more than 20 states.
