Dhanu Yatra is held at Bargarah, Orissa. Celebrated for 11 days in the months of December - January, it commemorates the visit of Lord Krishna to Mathura and also the victory of Lord Krishna over his uncle, Kansa.
The city transforms into a cultural stage as the depiction of various events from the life of Kansa like his death and the exploits of Krishna are showcased. During this period, the city of Bargarah becomes Mathura, the river Jeera becomes river Yamuna and Ambapalli situated on the other side of Jeera becomes Gopapura.
