  • Sasan Gir is a charming village situated near the Gir National Park.
  • Gir is a National Park and a Wildlife sanctuary and the only one in Asia having Asiatic lions (Asiatic lions as compared to ones in Africa are smaller in size).
  • Wildlife enthusiasts from all over India and world visit Gir for the purpose of sighting Asiatic Lion.
  • Gir is also a bird watching destination and guests looking to sight Aligators/crocodiles and Leopards.
  • Savanna (Grassland) kind of landscape ensures that the sightings are good even from a distance.
  • Other mammals that could be seen during game-watching drives are sambar (India’s largest deer), spotted deer, the world's only four-horned antelope, blue bull, Indian gazelle, wild boar, langur, jackal, jungle cat, rusty-spotted cat, striped hyena and black-naped hare.
  • For Birders Oct-March is the best time to visit for Migratory birds such as Paradise Flycatcher, Grey Drongo, Grey & Painted Francolin, Painted Sandgrouse, Bush Quail, Crested Hawk Eagle, Crested Serpent Eagle, Bonnelli's Eagle, Shikra Hawk, Sirkeer Cuckoo and White-necked Stork.
  • The Kamleshwar dam in the middle of the sanctuary is home to a record population of marsh crocodiles. Many species of snakes and lizards can be seen in the sanctuary as also fresh water turtles and terrapins at the rivers and possibly the star tortoise.
  • Devaliya Park, a separate are where Lions are kept in a protected area and guests are taken in a vehicle for a touristy safari.

  • Park remains closed during 1st July- 15th Oct. Jeep Safari Timing: Morning at 6:30 am to 9:30 am and afternoon: 03.30 pm to 06.30 pm Permits: The park safaris require photo ID proof {passport copy (overseas and Indian Nationals), voters ID, Pan Card, driving license Charges: Entry permit for Indian National and Overseas National is different Park remains close from July to September. Due to a lot of villages and native population in the buffer areas (Area around the core area of the park), lion is neither shy nor feel threatened of the human population and thus allow for a closer look.
