Birdwatching in Ranthambhore

Reasons to Visit
  • The Ranthambhore National Park, which is a part of the much larger Ranthambore tiger reserve, a Project tiger reserve, lies in the Sawai Madhopur district of eastern Rajasthan.
  • Ranthambhore is a renowned nature centric getaway and a wildlife / bird watching destination
  • Ranthambhore is home to 45 Tigers (2013 census) and Tiger sighting is regular.
  • Besides Tigers, Ranthambhore Park hosts a multitude of wild animals such as leopards, the elusive caracals, striped hyenas, sloth bears, jungle cats, wild boars, crocodiles and so on.
  • Over 300 species of birds, from the rare Indian courser to the beautiful painted sand grouse have been sighted in Ranthambhore.
  • Surwal Lake near Sawai Madhopur / Ranthambhore (30 minutes drive) offer excellent migratory Bird watching in Winter and recommended for bird watcher
Know It
  • Resorts at Ranthambhore and Sawai Madhopur provide mainly Canter Safaris whereas Jeep availability is limited and are required to be booked 64 days in advance Number of local operators pre-book jeep safaris and offer it on per seat basis. Park experience overall in Ranthambhore as compared to parks in Central India such as Bandhavgarh is inferior and therefore must be visited as a getaway and not as a wildlife destination. Jeep Safari Timing: Morning at 6:30 am to 9:30 am and afternoon: 02.30 pm to 05.30 pm Park Remains Closed from 1st July to 30th Sept.
Recommendations
  • Popular Destinations visited in a Rajasthan Circuit"180 kms form Jaipur and 300 kms from Agra, Ranthambhore adds a wildlife element to an otherwise heritage, lakes and pilgrim centric Rajasthan itinerary. Ranthambhore is a renowned Tiger sanctuary. Overall experience is inferior as compared to other parks in central India but still offers a welcome contrast at end of any Rajasthan trip. Recommended Stay - 2 nights"
  • Popular Ex-Delhi Wildlife and Bird watching Getaways"Ranthambhore is a renowned Tiger Sanctuary at about 400 kms from New Delhi. Bird watching happens here at lakes around Ranthambhore. Ranthambhore offers stylish getaway resorts and hotels and is hugely popular as a Train getaway, standalone driving getaway and as a wildlife / bird watching getaway."
  • Wildlife and Bird watching Destinations in Rajasthan"Ranthambhore (12 kms from Sawai Madhopur) is renowned for its Tiger Population and therefore a prime wildlife destination (even if overall experience is not on par with Parks of Central India). Lakes and countryside around Ranthambhore (such as Surval Lake) are prime bird watching sites in Winter. "
