    Pamukkale or Cotton castle is the most famous mineral-bath spa in Turkey since Roman times. For centuries, people have bathed in these natural springs whose water is believed to be therapeutic. Today Pamukkale is one of the most visited places in Turkey.

The hot springs in the city were believed to have curative powers and attracted many sick people in search of cure. Along with the natural hot springs the city is famous for a grand Theatre, the vast North Necropolis, colonnaded streets and baths.

    The Greco Roman Theatre in Hierapolis was built in the 2nd century AD by Roman Emperor Emperor and was soon destroyed in an earthquake. It was later rebuilt by Septimus Severus in 60 AD. The theatre has the capacity to hold 12,000-15,000 people. The theatre is home to some of the best preserved collection of Greco Roman theatre decorations.

    Roman Bath at Hierapolis were built around 3rd century AD during the Roman period. The hot springs of Hierapolis were believed to have therapeutic and curative powers and attracted many sick people-seeking cure of illness. Around 4th century AD, with the spread of Hierapolis also attracted a lot of Christian pilgrims and the Roman baths were converted to churches.

    Located on a small hill in Hierapolis is the octagonal shaped Martyrium of St Philip the Apostle. According to the Bible, it is believed that it was on this hill where St Philip the Apostle was martyred. This sight offers stunning views of the Hierapolis.
