    Jaisalmer fort is one of the rare living forts with a sizeable community living inside the fort. It has a few heritage hotels that allow guests to experience living in a fort, temples and an entire community that has been living there for generations.     Khuri Village is located 45 kms from Jaisalmer, right into Thar desert offering guests a rustic and less touristy desert experience and a bit different from Sam dunes experience, which is more touristy. There is also option to spend entire night on dunes for overnight camping.

    Tannot Mata is a temple at 120 kms from Jaisalmer on the border with Pakistan, and is very close to the battle site of Longewala of the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. After the war the temple management was handed over to Border Security Force. The temple has a museum which has collections of the unexploded bombs dropped by Pakistan.
