Winter Chaar Dham - A Travel Idea for Uttarakhand
Zig Zag roads around Joshimath
Chaar Dham is referred to as ultimate pilgrimage trip to remote Himalayan areas of Uttarakhand that comprises Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri. Traditional Chaar Dham circuit is open 6 months a year (Late April to Oct). A little known fact is that for rest of 6 months, the deities are brought to a base location and these locations can be visited even in peak winters. Chaar Dham is a circuit that combines these little known destinations of Ukhimath, Pandukeshwar (Joshimath), Mukhva and Kharsali.
Length of the itinerary is typically same as traditional Chaar Dham i.e. about 11-12 days ex-Delhi. The area around these temples is blessed with exceptional Himalayan beauty which is at its peak in Winter months (Oct - March). Therefore while Winter Char Dham is may be tagged a Pilgrimage trip but in reality it is as much as a Himalayan experience as much as its Pilgrimage.
