Wildlife in Ranthambhore
Ranthambhore is most visited park of Rajasthan. Its a relatively smaller park spread over 90 sq kms and accessed from Sawai Madhopur Station (12 kms) or Jaipur (180 kms).
Ranthambore is best known for its large tiger population. Other major wild animals include leopard, nilgai, dhole, wild boar, sambar, hyena, sloth bear and chital. Sightings are Average for Tigers and Average to Good for other Mammals.
Besides tigers, the reserve has bird population with more than 270 different species of birds.
You can go for Canter Safaris (open bus with 15 seats), jeep safaris, camel rides, bird watching excursions and nature walks. No. of Jeeps allowed in the park area is limited (about 16) and therefore those who wish to have Jeep Safaris must book 64 days in advance.
Regular wildlifers to Ranthambhore also make a visit to Sawai Mansingh Sanctuary, 9 kms from Ranthambhore, which is good for bird watching.
