Panna is situated 46 kms from Khajuraho and visited for Alligator Sanctuary, Mahaseer Fishing and the wildlife sanctuary (Wildlife and Bird watching).
Wildlife comprises Jungle Cat, Rusty spotted Cat, Leopard Cat, Desert Cat, Toddy Cat, Civet, Nilgai(Blue Bull), Sambhar Deer, Cheetal(spotted deer), Chausingha( four horned antelope), Chinkara and Wild Boar. Sloth Bears are also commonly found.
More than 300 species of birds have been sighted in Panna of which around 65 are water birds.
Tigers were reintroduced in Panna but sightings are rare. The negative publicity on account of poaching and tiger population completely vanishing within no time gave Panna a negative publicity out of which it is emerging now. Those who appreciate wildlife and nature in general, Panna is an excellent park and offers an excellent nature centric getaway.
Safaris - Jeep Safaris are arranged by the jungle lodges (Morning and Afternoon safaris - 3-4 hours each). Jeep safaris booking in advance is a must to avoid disappointment later especially during high season.
Season - Oct-March is considered good for Wildlife and Bird watching. April - May is good for photographers and Wildlifers. Temperatures can go upto 45 degrees celcius in May. Park is open 16th Oct - June.
