Thanedar is an orchard retreat at 7000+ft asl at 80 kms from Shimla (18 kms Off Hindustan Tibet Road (NH 22)). Area offers excellent walking routes through villages, orchards and forests offering excellent views.
Some of the popular walking routes are:
Hatu Peak (11000 ft asl) - One can scale the peak, a medium difficulty but interesting 4 hour trek. For those who are just wanting to get warmed up, a descend on a trail alongside the tar road is also possible.
Saroga Forest Walk - This is a good two hour evening walk exploring the forest around the area (Upto 8 kms).
Walk to the Church - This take you to all the way down to the valley (4 kms). Built in 1843, this church at Kotgarh is one of the oldest churches in India.
Tani-Jubbar Lake (6 kms) - More of a large pond. A local picnic spot. Famous for 'Nag Devta' temple built along the lake.
