Trout Fishing in Kashmir

Pahalgam (7000+ ft asl) is 100 kms from Srinagar and a riverside shepherd village with exceptional Himalayan beauty. The Lidder River here has excellent trout fishing beats for brown trout.
Sonamarg (8200+ ft asl) is blessed with exceptional close range Himalayan views. Sindh River is a natural hatchery of Trout, where angling is conducted.
The fishing season stretches from April to September. Best time however is between May and September. Permits are issued, for a maximum of three days at a time, on a first-come-first-served basis and are charged on a per day per rod basis.
Fishing equipment can be hired in Srinagar. Live baits and spinning are not allowed. For permits contact the Directorate of Fisheries, Nehru Park, Srinagar.
