Mauritius
All major accommodations in Mauritius are mainly situated in and around Grand Bay (North), Flic-en-Flac (West), Le Morne Peninsula (South West), Bel Ombre (South), Belle Mare (East) and Port Louis.
There are exclusive Golf Resorts and Spas in the South, there are beach resorts with extensive beach fronts in the East and the West and there are small resorts, beach bungalows and villa complexes in the North Area.
Those who look at Mauritius as just a pristine getaway destination and looking at exclusive beach front stays and don't really care for any sightseeing, look to stay in South West, East or the South. Guests who plan to do a lot of sightseeing, it make sense to stay in the West as most sightseeing areas are closer than other stay locations.
Typical package stays sold by a lot of resellers for 4 nights or 6 nights for 3-star to 5-star hotels include sightseeing trips irrespective of weather one takes it or not. However there are a large number of independent villa for hire for week basis. They are economical and convenient do it yourself kind of options.
Package Vs. Per night debate is a long one. While packages offer best value and a pre-determined plan of action, a per night plan offers you options to explore around and look for meal options. There is also an eternal privacy seeker, who hates to do touristy sightseeing with 10 other people. If the package anyways comes with some sightseeing, one does not have to do it all and one can opt for a self drive or private sightseeing option.
