Guruvayoor Temple (100 kms from Cochin and 25 kms from Thrissur) is dedicated to Lord Krishna and one of the major pilgrimage centres in Kerala.

Other significant temples in and around Thrissur are:

Thriprayar Temple - is dedicated to Lord Rama and is famous for the wood carvings, sculptures and Mural-paintings. The Snake boat race held here is always a major attraction. The race is held in August/September every year.

Koodalmanikyam Temple (21 kms from Thrissur) - is the only temple in India dedicated to Bharatha, who, according to mythology, was the brother of Lord Rama.

Vadakkumnathan Temple - is a Lord Shiva shrine. It is famous for the annual Pooram festival held in April/May every year, which combines the majestic elephant pageantry with the frenzied playing of drums and cymbals and rounded off with a fireworks extravaganza.

Palakkad (65 kms from Thrissur): Kalpathy Temple in Palakkad, a Shiva temple built in 1425 AD and is renowned for The Chariot Festival, which occurs in the month of November every year.
