Surgad Fort Trek - Ex-Mumbai
Reservoir near Panvel - Photo Courtesy Pradeep
Sahyadri Ranges in Maharashtra is full of medieval forts, ancient caves and temples that are historically connected to Raja Shivaji, the great Maratha warrior. There are number of treks and trails that run round around these that offer great views and are hugely popular in monsoons and winters. The trails offer great views as one is left awestruck at the incredible skills of the people who build forts and temples at such treacherous heights
Standing on the banks of the Kundalika river, Surgad is an interesting fort to climb. The top offers great views of the meandering Kundalika river as it originates from Tamhini Ghat and finds it way to the sea at Roha. The foothills of Surgad are covered with tropical rain forests and the slopes leading to the fort on top look intimidating, but can be conquered easily.
