Srinagar Houseboat in Summer
Views from Shankracharya Hill
Srinagar (5000+ ft asl) is a capital city of Kashmir and renowned for its lakeside experience. Houseboats are a unique experience with hundreds of boats together on the banks of Dal Lake. For those who prefer a more secluded lake experience would prefer the Nagin side of the lake which is a little farther from the Boulevard area (from where one takes Shikaras to reach the Dal lake houseboats).
Houseboats are often preferred for a stay in Srinagar for its unique lakeside ambience, its value proposition and personalized hospitality of the houseboat owners. Srinagar houseboats have been a memorable part of many honeymooners in 1960s, 70s and early 80s. Its not uncommon for them to come back for a nostalgia trip. The ambience around is so relaxing that It’s very common to have Senior citizens, writers, stressed corporate executives, group of friends etc. arrive for a few days (upto a week) for a “do nothing” trip.
Stay Duration: Typically guests stay for 2-3 nights. However guests looking for just relaxation, Golf and exploring around may even end up staying upto a week.
There is a set of guests who base themselves on houseboats and explore Gulmarg (50 kms), Sonamarg (85 kms) and even Pahalgam (100 kms) in day visits (Although a stay in Gulmarg and Pahalgam is recommended instead).
