Sanchi Stupas - UNESCO World Heritage Site
Bhopal is base point to visit Sanchi Stupas (46kms). The 'Great Stupa' at Sanchi was originally commissioned by the emperor Ashoka the Great in the third century. Further Stupas and other Hindu structures were added later and between 1912 and 1919 the structures were restored to their present condition.
Sanchi Stupas are important part of the Buddhist Pilgrimage Circuit and has been recognised as a UNESCO World heritage site and a major tourist attraction (Domestic and International travellers).
