Ram Temple enroute Dhanushkodi
Rameshwaram is home to Ramanathaswamy Shiva Temple and one of the 12 Jyotirlinga Shiva temples. Ramanathaswamy Shiva Temple is an inpressive ancient temple complex that is steeped in tradition and is considerd one of the Char dhams of Hinduisim (alongwith Puri, Dwarna and Badrinath).
Rameshwaram is also home to sevaral significant temples related to Ramayana. Guests to Rameshwaram also visit Dhanushkodi beach from where Lord Rama and his army believed to have build Ramsetu and crossed over to Lanka (Sri Lanka) to save his wife Goddress Sita. Dhanushkodi beach (12 kms) is spectacular with 270 degree view of the Ocean.
Other significant attractions comprise Pamban Bridge (Superb Views), Home of Abdul Kalam (erstwhile President of India) and water based activities (watersports).
Rameshwaram is a Pilgrim getaway and also day visited ex-Madurai (160 kms) and is a popular stopover on the Tamilnadu pilgrim itinerary.
